Where we are

Here is the basic geography of where we are:

Germany is approximately the size of Montana.  It is comprised of sixteen Länder (states), most of which are large regions such as North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Saxony. A couple are Stadtstaaten, city-states like Berlin and Hamburg.

We are living in the state of Bavaria, the largest land area of the german states and second most populous; Munich is the capitol.

Tune in further, and we reside in Lower Franconia, a region within Bavaria.
And…the capitol of Lower Franconia is Würzburg!

A lot to think about if you are not familiar with the layout of Deutschland-

Germany > Bavaria > Lower Franconia > Würzburg!

Or to simplify, we are smack dab in the center of Germany (:

We’re in Germany!

Why this blog?

The intention of this blog is to keep our loved ones and the casual reader up to speed on what we are doing with a few practical ideas about expat life in Germany.

I love art, design, history, and all things pretty.   Derek is an engineer who likes fun and adventure. We are living in central Germany until August 2015.

We hope to post things that make us laugh, things we think are beautiful, things that don’t translate between cultures, things that do, things that remind us of home, and videos of cats playing the piano.

In addition to design, I also have a background in technical writing so you may get a sense of the style of this blog:  At times glossy, other-times honest and uncensored.  I hope that you enjoy reading, and will pose any questions or thoughts. And of course visit us in Bavaria!

Tschüss!
